Ignite Fitness

Here are some photographs of probably the best gym in East Africa.  Currently located at Westgate Mall, the Village Market, and a couple of other places I’m forgetting…must be the tacos.

For more information, check out their Facebook page, super responsive, great staff members on board, super-super experienced…

I’d like to draw your attention to the arenas…areas set aside per specific form of exercise… is that correct gym lingo?…Must be the tacos.

Service ♥♥ (You might experience slow service…)
Food ♥♥♥♥♥ (The Pork Belly Bao was pretty good man. Damn. It was great.  Almost savory, and you could smell the vanilla essence as soon as your board touched the table.  The tomato chutney served with the Smashes Avo was delightful.)
Ambiance ♥♥♥(It’s semi-outdoor with the lesos for a roof, so the sun seeps in when its sunny out 🙂 It is a small space though, if you’re claustrophobic, perhaps you can request for the table to be moved outside :-))
Drinks ♥♥♥♥♥ (The Vietnamese coffee they served is the best coffee I’ve had in a very, very long while.  My mate Madhav was very generous in his sharing of the coffee…much to his disappointment 😀 The Banana Chia Smoothie gave me a health kick, and I was glad to be alive, and dining healthy :-))
Music ♥♥♥♥♥(The food is the music…I promise.  You’ll see…/hear 😛 )
Pork Belly Bao: 850/-

Judy and Madhav, thank you for your company <3.  Check out their pages for more foodie/adventure cool stuff 🙂

Location ♥♥♥♥♥(Not far from the CBD, easily accessible.)
Parking ♥♥♥♥♥ (Large space (Delta Towers) and it’s free 🙂 )
Service ♥♥♥♥♥ (Fast, efficient, friendly.)
Food ♥♥♥♥♥ (The Quesadillas Acapulco-chicken was tasty, three different servings of sauce/dip; and the potato wedges that came with my mate’s Grilled Snapper Ala Mexican were just amazing: crunchy, well salted, and not too oily 🙂 ❤

Also, the warm dark chocolate was proper chocolate, I don’t even know how they managed to shape it into cake 😛 😀 JK JK JK.  The Crème brûlée was as milky as I thought it would never be 😀  Great food.  That’s all.)

Ambiance ♥♥♥♥♥(You can sit inside the restaurant/bar area or you can lounge outside with the heaters to keep you warm 🙂  It’s just a great restaurant guys.)
Drinks ♥♥♥♥♥ (The Nana Mint Tea will never let you down.  Leaves you feeling healthy all the way 😛 The S’mores milkshake was pretty good too.  Tasted bananery, yes, that is a word now, that I just made up…It didn’t have an overwhelming sugary taste.)
Music ♥♥♥♥♥(It’s there, and it’s always great.  On Saturdays they play the BeeGees, ABBA, etc… classics.  It’s just the best restaurant/bar there is that almost makes it seem as though its run effortlessly…but you can tell they put in a lot of work, and thought into what they do to ensure best practices in their industry 🙂 )
Grilled Red Snapper: 1,350/-
Nana Mint Tea & S’more Milkshake
Quesadillas Acapulco: 800/-
Creme Brulee: 500/- I think 😛
Warm Dark Chocolate with a Scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream: Also 500 I think 😛

9.0 – 10.0 Amani ya Juu & Elementaita Bandas

Amani ya Juu

Please have a look at the link above, and you’ll build an even greater appreciation of what’s happening at Amani ya Juu and how it came to be.

Not sure if they take reservations but you can reach them here for any inquiries: +254 721 243 301

Damage ♥♥♥♥♥ (View food menu here . Value for money is guaranteed.)
Location ♥♥♥♥(Not too far off from the CBD, close to Waiyaki Way.  Actual Location is at the traffic light junction just before the now demolished Java/Shell at the arboretum.  Literally next to Prime Bank.)
Parking ♥♥ (It’s a small space.  If you can get a cab/Safe Boda there, that’d be great. [Try these promo codes: SBFUZUKE; BEATTHEJAM; MBUNDE; NBOSAFEBODA)
Service ♥♥♥♥♥ (Brilliant.)
Food ♥♥♥♥♥ (The Akatogo Chicken Salad was just tasty and there’s nothing else I want to say about this.  The Mexikenya Salad was great too according to my mate Kaoru, though the chicken was a tad dry…as it should be…you’ll notice the guac overload from the photograph 😀 )
Ambiance ♥♥♥♥(It’s outdoors, lots of trees and shade and sufficient space for the playing ground.  Watch out for the falling leaves 😛 )
Drinks ♥♥♥♥♥ (Pure fruit juice. The quantity is just ludicrous for anyone who’s lived that Nairobi life 😀 It’s affordable.  And I mean that.)
Music (There’s no music.  Amani ya Juu is a place for meaningful conversations if not quiet meditation.  Lol, not quite, but you catch the drift, yes? )

Elementaita Bandas

As the name suggests, it’s a boarding facility, but you can go there just for the food and the ambiance as well…but I guarantee you that you will want to stay overnight.

You can reach the Bandas on: +254 729 282222.  Kindly make your inquiries about the rooms available and the rates as well beforehand for a stress-free get-away 🙂

Damage ♥♥♥ (Kshs. 6,500 half board I believe.  The food was a little costly, and so were the drinks.  It might be helpful to consider eating out in Naivasha before heading over for some sleep and room service for hot beverages 🙂 )
Location ♥♥♥(It’s pretty close to the Jacaranda Elementaita Lodge, literally on the other side of the road.  Fairly easy to find the location area using Google Maps.  However, it might take a couple of minutes to find it once you’re off-road.  Follow the dainty signs or give them a call and you’ll be there in about ten minutes or less from the main road.)
Parking ♥♥♥ (It’s a small space, but sufficient.)
Service ♥♥♥♥ (Timely.)
Food ♥♥♥♥ (Try out the buffet that includes a choice of beef or chicken with rice, potatoes, greens and a salad if my memory serves me right. I would like to note here that this is the only establishment I have ever been to that will feed your child for free.  WHAT I’M TRYING TO SAY IS THAT THEY WILL LITERALLY FEED YOUR CHILD, and for free.  This is a haven for everyone, but the children are the stars there 🙂 ❤ )
Ambiance ♥♥♥♥(The outdoors are beautiful, dotted with actual guinea fowl guys.  Like 14 of them.  Magnificent. There’s a large swing set, a slide and hammock couches as well.  Please go and have fun.  Also, they will set up a bonfire for you.  Please carry appropriate clothing as it gets chilly at night, as well as bug spray for yourself while outside.  Indoor bug spray is provided by management for free 🙂 )
Drinks ♥♥♥ (You’ll get pretty much everything you’re looking for, at a convenience cost as well.  Obliviously.)
Music (There’s no music here either perhaps at the request of management.  This is to avoid disturbing your neighbors within the compound.  However, the kids get to watch DSTv while being fed food, and milk and cookies and mahamri and what not…I sat with the kids just about the entire time in case you were wondering 😛 )

7.0 – 8.0 Kilele Rooftop Lounge & Panda Restaurant

Kilele Rooftop Lounge

Kilele Rooftop Lounge: Sirloin Steak

Location: Rhapta Road, Westlands (Opens at 10:00AM till late, Happy Hour 17:30-19:30 hours, can make reservations/inquiries on: +254 020 514 7532)

Damage ♥♥♥ (View food menu here and drinks menu here.)
Location ♥♥♥(Not too far off from the CBD, close to Waiyaki Way, Remarkably tight entrance, please head the security team’s instruction on parking/exiting.  The lounge is pretty neat, usually not crowded and decent ambiance, particularly at night, when Westlands comes to full view at the terrace.  It gets a little chilly there so dress warm.)
Parking ♥♥♥ (Sufficient, but confusing…and a bit too tight for anyone with a guzzler machine.)
Service ♥♥♥ (Okay-ish…might die from the cold before a waiter notices you, lol jk jk jk jk jk.  Friendly, and professional.)
Food ♥♥♥♥ (The sirloin steak wasn’t bad, but I expected a bit more from them in terms of how it was prepared. Reverse seared…butter…rosemary…

The nachos were original.  Lmao.  That sounds horrible.  But what I mean by that was that it wasn’t plain deep-fried All purpose flour strips.  They were proper nachos, down to the seasoning.)

Ambiance ♥♥♥♥(Lovely, at night, when you can see all of Westlands in its shining glory; Haven’t been there during daytime, but I imagine the city would still look great…just not dreamy, I suppose 😛 )
Drinks ♥♥♥ (Did not like their cosmopolitan, I think that’s what that was…but their mojito was great.  That’s a drink that’s hard to mess up.  Be safe :-D)
Music (Depending on the day…if you don’t like Naija music, please tell management so we can get variety next time.  Create employment guys…Live Djs and what not 🙂 )

Panda Chinese Restaurant

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Location: Kaunda Street, CBD next to Eco-bank Towers  (Reservations: +254 736 163 543)

Damage ♥♥♥♥ (View menu here.  Pretty good Chinese food.)
Location ♥♥♥♥ (In the CBD, but it is a well managed establishment.  For groups larger than 10, please make a reservation to avoid disappointment.)
Parking ♥ (None, basically.  It’s street parking, where you park at your own risk.  But that’s CBD life for anyone 😀 , so take an Uber if you can.)
Service ♥♥♥♥ (Fast, and friendly.  Smartly dressed servers.)
Food ♥♥♥♥ (They make Chinese food as it should be.: Simple & Delicious.)
Ambiance ♥♥♥ (Large space.  Great for an intimate dinner as well where you can catch up with an old/new friend and still hear everything that comes out of their mouth 😀 .  Not sure if they have private dining.)
Drinks ♥♥♥ (Didn’t try out anything fancy, but you can catch a nice cold beer there if that’s your thing 🙂 )

5.0 – 6.0: Mambo Italia & Mercado

Mambo Italia

Location: Garden City (Opens at 10:00AM, can make reservations here: +254 709 670 000)

Damage ♥♥♥♥ (View menu here)
Location ♥♥♥(Bit far off from the CBD on the Thika-Nairobi highway; Busy location as well as it’s inside a mall.  The restaurant itself has a decent ambience, particularly at night, when they light candles for each table.)
Parking ♥♥♥♥ (Plenty; it’s a mall :-D)
Service ♥♥♥♥ (FAST and FRIENDLY.  Thought I’d say fast and furious, no? :-D)
Food ♥♥♥♥ (The lamb chops and penne pasta was delicious.  Delicioso.)
Ambiance ♥♥♥ (Lovely, particularly at night; however the sitting space outside is rather limited and tends to be too much in sight of the rest of the mall.)
Drinks ♥♥♥♥ (I love their harmony tea.  Please get their tea, okay?  Sorry I didn’t take a photograph of it but it is just tea :-D)
Survey Please take their customer service survey, it helps improve their service and operations in general ♥

Location: Kenrail Towers Terrace level next to 9 West in Westlands (Reservations: +254 700 245 795)

Damage ♥♥♥♥ (View menu here.  Great prices for great food)
Location ♥♥♥♥ (In westlands, so a bit outside the madness range of the CBD)
Parking ♥ (Barely enough, and not seemingly safe to be honest)
Service ♥♥♥♥ (Pretty fast actually, and pretty friendly as well.  Fantastically dressed servers too…and they all have those fancy ear gadgets, making you feel as though your meal is their top-most priority…and it is.)
Food ♥♥♥♥ (The lamb chops and the spinach mushroom quesadilla were really good.  Particularly the quesadilla, super super cheesy.)
Ambiance ♥♥♥ (Large space, but extrememly crowded.  Don’t go there for an intimate dinner, and I’m not sure if they have private dining.  Super super super busy as during the weekend; be sure to make your reservations even a week before hand.  Side note: everyone shares the same bathroom space (Gender specific bathrooms but all in the same room), so prepare yourself mentally if you have to.)
Drinks ♥♥♥The pinacolada was good too 🙂

Food Series 2.0-4.0: The Arbor, 7 Day Chinese Restaurant, & Ocean Basket (KE)

The Arbor

Located on: James Gichuru Rd. just after/before Lavington Green Mall (Depending on which side you’ll be visiting from.)

Damage ♥♥♥♥ (View menu here)
Location ♥♥♥♥(Not too far from the CBD, not to close to the clutter of daily life.  You’ll like it there, and you can shop as well  [curio shop onsite]
Parking ♥♥ (Barely enough, you’ll park outside the premises.  It was a home converted into a restaurant)
Service ♥♥♥ (May take a while to have your order taken)
Food ♥♥♥ (The Pork BBQ ribs and the Pad Thai were incredibly salty, but delicious.  View photographs here)
Ambiance ♥♥♥♥ (Garden with hippy decorations.  See photos here)
Drinks ♥♥♥♥ (About 5 options for cocktails, and they had a buy one get one free on Labour Day so…not too bad.  Try the Tamarind Mojito if you’re a mint leaves kind of human)
Chances of spotting a celebrity 1 in every 2 hours Lmao.  It’s true though.  Also, you can hold birthday parties here…there’s extra seating not captured in the photographs.

7-Day Chinese Restaurant

Located on: Rhapta Road in Westlands just before/after the Vineyard (Depending on which side you’ll be visiting from.)

Damage ♥♥♥♥ (View menu here.  There was a 10% discount for the month of April.  I’m sorry guys, I’ll do a better job next time :-D)
Location ♥♥♥♥ (Literally within a neighborhood.  So if you live near Westlands, they can deliver to your door)
Parking ♥ (Barely enough, you’ll park inside the premises.  It was a home converted into a restaurant)
Service ♥♥♥♥ (Pretty fast actually, but that’s the nature of Chinese food, doesn’t take too long to prepare.  Also, you’ll receive an incredibly warm welcome from the owner, Li)
Food ♥♥♥ (The sea food noodle soup was a little season-less, but the pork dumplings were not too bad.  Be sure to ask for vinegar and soy sauce for the dumplings.)
Ambiance ♥♥♥ (Small space, heavily decorated with Chinese decorations [And apparently they didn’t even use all of them…lol.  See photos here)
Drinks Didn’t order any so I cannot rate this for now

Ocean Basket (The Oval, Westlands)

Located: Very close to Westgate Mall)

If you’ve heard of it a number of times but never actually had their food…this might help

Damage ♥♥ (View menu here.)
Location ♥♥♥ (The potholes on your way there are large enough to park your car unnoticed and leave it there for the night)
Parking ♥♥♥♥ (Plenty.  Parking fees apply [Up to KShs. 200 I believe])
Service ♥♥♥ (Not too bad, but it might take a while to prepare your order.  Meanwhile, you’ll get to listen to an amazing live band that plays there once in a while, I think.  I actually don’t know if they play there often, and I didn’t get their name L)
Food ♥♥♥ (The platter for one that I had was pretty decent, however, you can tell the ingredients aren’t fresh…perhaps they import their food from South Africa? I don’t know for sure.  The Ocean Basket in South Africa serves a different experience altogether.  Fresh food.  You can taste the difference.) We had the Flower Power Platter and the Platter for 1.
Ambiance ♥♥♥♥ (Pretty large space to be honest.  Terrace seating available with outdoor heating to keep you warm at night; yes, like the ones at Brew in Westlands)
Drinks ♥♥♥ (Wide range of options.  If you can, try the Elderflower Fizzy drink.  Which you won’t find on the menu posted.  Lol :-D)

Food Series: 1.0 Roll-Up Ice Cream

Dear mates, and new readers,

This is the first post on my food series.  I’ll keep it short, and provide as much information as I can 🙂 All ratings are out of 5

Le food: Roll-Up ice cream

Flavor range: ♥♥♥ Quite a bit; includes fruit also.  The fruit is mashed up with the cream then frozen, rolled up, and sprinkled with gummy bears or whatever you like from the options they have.  They have sauces too…chocolate…fruity tutti…(The fruit includes kiwi, strawberries, mango I think.  Don’t remember much.  I’ll do a better job next time, okay? Lol)

Service: ♥♥♥♥ Great service

Location: ♥♥ You’ll have to buy the goods and scat.  It’s located along a corridor inside the building on the ground floor.  This is at Diamond Plaza (Old Building, not the Annex) in Parklands, Nairobi.

Damage: ♥♥♥♥ KShs 400/= For what you’ll be getting, it’s priced just right.

There’s a video as well if you would like to have a look.  You can find it here alongside all other photographs I have taken for this series and will be uploading in due time.

Enjoy!  Do pass by the entrance of the supermarket located in the same building; get yourself some halua and other Arabic treats.

Enjoy your week, now that you have sufficient time to plan for you weekend activities 😉
